FAQ

Questions seafarers actually ask.

MCA orals, certificates and sea time, answered from the MCA's own notices — then everything about our two apps.

Orals, tickets and sea time

Bridgedeck

Who is Bridgedeck for?

Working deck and engine officers — from cadets prepping their OOW orals to senior officers logging sea time. We assume you know the trade; the copy doesn't over-explain.

Where do I buy the apps?

On the App Store, and Logbook is on Google Play too. Bridgedeck.app is the umbrella: Study is the AI oral examiner (live on iOS), Logbook is the free sea-time logbook (iOS and Android).

Is any of Study free?

Yes. The COLREGs drills — lights, buoyage, sound signals, steering rules — are free, no card, no timer. So is the full flashcard deck, plus a short voice mock so you can hear the examiner first. You pay when you want unlimited voice orals.

Is Logbook really free?

Yes, up to 100 sea days. After that, Bridgedeck Pro is €34.99/yr — one price, no comparison table. We tell you the price up front so you don't find it three taps deep.

Does Study actually pass me?

Study can't sit your oral for you. It gives you unlimited examiner-style mock orals, a syllabus coverage map, and a candid read of where you're shaky. The MCA signs off, not us.

Bridgedeck Study

Is Bridgedeck Study an official MCA product?

No. Bridgedeck Study is an independent prep tool, not affiliated with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, IAMI, or any flag administration. The MCA examines you — we train you for it.

Does the AI examiner know the latest MIN 690 thresholds?

Yes. Our syllabus mapping is verified against the current MIN 690 Part A thresholds and we update it whenever the MCA publishes new guidance. We track each notice with a source citation so you can see what's authoritative.

Which Certificates of Competency are covered?

Live now: OOW Yachts <3000 GT, OOW Unlimited, Master Code <200 / OOW Yachts <500, and Master <500 Yachts. Master Yachts <3000 is next, with Chief Mate and Master Unlimited to follow. The free COLREGs module covers every ticket.

Is my voice recorded or stored?

No. Audio is processed in real time and never persisted. You get a written transcript of every session, but the recording itself is gone the moment you finish. Full detail in our privacy policy.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Monthly plans cancel at the end of the current billing cycle — no clawback, no questions. Annual plans are non-refundable mid-term but cancel automatically at renewal.

Do you do team or shipping-company plans?

Yes. If you're a yacht management company, a school, or a fleet operator and you want to roll Bridgedeck Study out across your officers, email hello@bridgedeck.app with how many seats and we'll put a quote together.

Bridgedeck Logbook

What counts as a sea day?

For a UK yacht deck CoC, the MCA counts a day of seagoing service as one with at least 4 hours of working duty in 24 hours (MSN 1858). Logbook counts sea days from the voyages you log, separately from days aboard — check your totals against your testimonials before you apply.

What happens after 100 days if I don't upgrade?

Everything you've logged stays in the app and stays free to view and export. Bridgedeck Pro unlocks unlimited logging after your first 100 sea days. We don't hold your career hostage.

Where is my data kept?

On your phone first — Logbook works fully offline — and backed up privately to the cloud. Certificate photos in the Pro vault stay on your device and are never uploaded. The full detail is in our privacy policy.

Does the PDF pass a flag-state audit?

It follows the layout of a sea service testimonial for the fields Logbook records, ready to print and have your master sign in ink. Before you submit it, check it against the current form in MSN 1858 Annex A and add anything it doesn't capture.

Can I add sea time from before I installed the app?

Yes — log a past vessel or voyage, give it the dates, and Logbook back-calculates the sea days for you. Save-and-add-another until your whole history's in.

Can I use it in my language?

Eighteen languages, switched instantly and offline — because around 44% of seafarers don't work in their first language. The maritime terms, the PDF and your emails stay in English, because that's what a flag state reads.
