Still building your sea time? Bridgedeck Logbook keeps your sea, stand-by, yard and watchkeeping days as you go, offline, and exports an MCA-style PDF. Free up to 100 sea days.

Checks sea service only, from totals. It can't check per-voyage limits — stand-by counts at most 14 consecutive days at a time — and if you served in a dual deck and engine role, enter that time at half. Courses, exams, your ENG1 and the oral are separate: see OOW Yachts <3000 GT. Nothing you type here leaves your browser. The MCA decides your eligibility, not this page.

The rules it applies

What sea time does OOW (Yachts <3000 GT) need?

36 months' onboard yacht service since age 16. Within it, 365 days' seagoing service on yachts of 15 m or more: at least 250 days actual seagoing, plus 115 days of any mix of seagoing, stand-by and yard service (MSN 1858 §3.3(c)).

How much stand-by and yard service counts?

Stand-by counts at most 14 consecutive days at a time, never more than the voyage before it, so your total stand-by can never exceed your actual seagoing service. Yard service counts up to 90 days towards OOW (§3.3(c), §5.2).

What does Master (Yachts <500 GT) need?

While holding OOW (Yachts <3000 GT): 12 months' onboard yacht service as a deck officer, including 120 days' watchkeeping, on yachts of 15 m or more (§3.5(b)).

What does Master (Yachts <3000 GT) need?

While serving as OOW (Yachts <3000 GT): 24 months' onboard yacht service as a deck officer, including 240 days' watchkeeping, all on yachts of 15 m or more, and including 12 months on yachts of 24 m or more or 6 months on yachts of 500 GT or more (§3.6(a)).

How does the MCA count months and days?

A month is a calendar month, or 30 days where the service is made up of periods shorter than a month; the calculator uses 30. A day of seagoing service needs at least 4 hours of working duty in 24. Service in a dual deck and engine role counts at 50% (§5.1–5.3).
