Logbook: languages

Your logbook, in your language.

Ships and yachts are crewed from all over the world, and not everyone logs their sea time in English. Bridgedeck Logbook runs in 18 languages and switches between them instantly, with no signal needed. The parts a flag state reads stay in English.

Checked against the sources listed below on 29 October 2026. Bridgedeck is independent and not affiliated with the MCA.

The languages

Which languages is Bridgedeck Logbook available in?

Eighteen: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, Croatian, Romanian, Indonesian, Turkish, Polish, German, Dutch, Chinese (Simplified), Arabic and Filipino.

Does Arabic display right to left?

Yes. The layout mirrors for Arabic, so the app reads in the direction you'd expect.

Is the whole app translated?

The screens, buttons, messages and setup are. A few things are deliberately left in English — see below.

Switching language

How do I change the app's language?

In Settings, under Appearance, choose Language. Until you pick one, the app follows your phone's language.

Do I need signal to change language?

No. Every language is built into the app, so switching is instant, works offline and doesn't need a restart.

Does my language choice change anything in my records?

No. The choice stays on your phone and only changes what you see. Your logbook entries, totals and exports are the same whichever language you use.

What stays in English

Why are ranks and certificate names still in English?

The maritime terms — ranks, vessel types and certificate types — stay in English in every language. They are the English terms used on certificates, testimonials and ship's paperwork worldwide, so what you log matches your documents.

Is the testimonial PDF translated?

No. The sea service testimonial PDF always stays in English, whatever language the app is in. It is a document for your Master and for a regulator, and it follows an English-language form.

Are Bridgedeck's emails translated?

No. Emails, including the certificate expiry email, are in English.

Cost and devices

Do other languages cost extra?

No. All 18 are in the app for everyone. Logbook is free up to 100 sea days; Bridgedeck Pro, an optional paid subscription, unlocks unlimited logging after that, and your existing records are always free to view and export.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 or later) from the App Store, and Android from Google Play, and a Mac version (macOS 10.15 or later).
